Dopo quasi cinque anni di vita nella capitale inglese per Osvaldo arriva il momento di tirare le somme, di guardarsi dentro e cercare di capire se tutti gli sforzi, le difficoltà affrontate per integrarsi in una nuova cultura, la lontananza dalla famiglia e dagli amici sono valsi ciò in cui Londra lo ha trasformato.
«Londra, come qualunque altro posto al mondo, ha i suoi pro e i suoi contro. Ho sempre pensato che non sia una città per tutti, molti dei miei amici si sono trasferiti qui pensando fosse facile trovare un lavoro ed emergere, ma in realtà è estremamente dura e si è costantemente messi a dura prova, la competizione è altissima e gli standard elevati. È una città frenetica e molti non reggono i ritmi. Ma se si riesce a trovare la propria dimensione e a ritagliarsi i propri spazi senza farsi sopraffare dalla frenesia, non ci si può che innamorare di questa città. Proprio per questo per il momento non ho nessuna intenzione di trasferirmi altrove.
Molti amici e colleghi di qui, innamorati dell’Italia, a volte mi guardano sconvolti e mi chiedono che cosa mi abbia fatto decidere di lasciare un Paese tanto meraviglioso… e in cui si mangia così bene! È una domanda che mi spiazza sempre, adoro l’Italia, mi mancano la mia famiglia e i miei amici e ho nostalgia di casa tutti i giorni. Ma gli stimoli creativi che ricevo qui sono incomparabili, il mio sogno è creare una collezione con il mio marchio un giorno, e purtroppo non credo che l’Italia mi possa offrire questa opportunità.
Londra rimane la meta di molti proprio perché dà l’idea che qui si possa realizzare qualunque sogno. Se sarò pronto a lottare, forse, anche il mio potrà realizzarsi.
Dopo quasi cinque anni in questa città la mia personalità è sicuramente diventata più forte. Lo spirito di adattamento è necessario e si rafforza, specialmente quando devi affrontare qualunque cosa parlando una lingua che non è la tua lingua madre! Inoltre, conoscere e legare con persone che arrivano letteralmente da tutto il mondo ti porta ad ampliare i tuoi punti di vista e a valutare cose da prospettive che altrimenti non avresti mai preso in considerazione prima. E’ sicuramente un’esperienza che consiglierei a chiunque!
Sono molto contento di essermi trasferito qui, e non tornerei sicuramente sui miei passi!»
Con 8 milioni di abitanti, 3 milioni di stranieri, 130 mila italiani, 300 lingue, 130 moschee, 183 sinagoghe, 6000 pub, 13.000 ristoranti, 600 cinema, 400 teatri, 150 casinò, 300 night club, 18.000 taxi, 272 stazioni del metrò, 8 stazioni ferroviarie, 649 linee di autobus, 5 aeroporti, tutte le religioni della terra e 1 regina a Londra c’è tutto ciò di cui si ha bisogno… ma non sembra mai troppo.

After nearly five years in the English capital city, it’s time for Osvaldo to sum things up, to look within and find out whether all the efforts, the difficulties faced to integrate into a new culture, the separation from family and friends have earned what London has turned him into.
«Like any other place in the world, London has its pros and cons. I never thought it to be a city for anyone, many of my friends have moved here thinking it would be easy to find a job and emerge, but in reality it’s extremely hard and you’re constantly put to the test, the competition is very high and so are standards. It’s a busy city and many can’t really hold the pace. But if you manage to find your size and cut out your own space without being overwhelmed by the frenzy, then you can only fall in love with this city. That’s exactly why I have no intention to move anywhere else for the moment.
Many friends and colleagues here, in love with Italy, sometimes look at me shocked and ask me what made me decide to leave a country so wonderful … and where food is so good! This is a question that’s always struck me.. I love Italy, I miss my family and my friends and I miss home every day. But the creative ideas that I receive here are incomparable, my dream is to create a collection with my own brand one day, and unfortunately I don’t think Italy could ever offer me such an opportunity.
London remains the destination for many because it gives the idea that you can make any dream come true over here. If I’m ready to fight, perhaps even mine will be realized.
After almost five years in this city my personality has definitely become stronger. The spirit of adaptation is necessary and strengthened, especially when you have to do everything speaking a language which is not your own! In addition to that, getting to know people coming literally from all over the world takes you to expand your views and see things from perspectives that you would’ve never considered before otherwise. It ‘s definitely an experience I would recommend to anyone!
