Pubblichiamo l’appello dei collaboratori dei due Bush, di McCain e di Romney, cioè dei presidenti e dei candidati presidenti del GOP prima di Trump, che non si riconoscono nella degenerazione del loro partito e, per questo, invitano a votare per i democratici

Pubblichiamo la lettera diffusa da oltre duecento ex funzionari, collaboratori e leader politici repubblicani, che non si riconoscono nella degenerazione del partito iniziata con l’arrivo di Donald Trump. Il messaggio è un appello agli elettori a fare la cosa giusta, votare per Kamala Harris e Tim Walz il 5 novembre, alle elezioni presidenziali.

Quattro anni fa, noi ex funzionari e collaboratori del presidente George W. Bush, dell’ex senatore John McCain e dell’allora governatore Mitt Romney ci riunimmo per mandare un messaggio, per avvisare i colleghi repubblicani che una rielezione del presidente Donald Trump sarebbe stata un disastro per la nostra nazione. In quella dichiarazione avevamo affermato la pura verità, prevedendo che altri quattro anni di amministrazione Trump avrebbero provocato danni irreparabili alla nostra amata democrazia.

Lanciammo quel segnale mesi prima che tutte le bugie riguardo l’elezione rubata diventasso dibattito quotidiano e sei mesi prima che Trump incitasse un’insurrezione, aizzando una folla di seguaci e lacchè a usare la forza per ribaltare quel che il popolo americano aveva espresso con il voto.

Oggi ci riuniamo, coadiuvati da altri ex funzionari e collaboratori di George H. W. Bush, per rafforzare il messaggio del 2020 e, per la prima volta, dichiarare in maniera congiunta che voteremo per la vicepresidente Kamala Harris e il governatore Tim Walz a novembre.

Certo, abbiamo diverse sincere differenze ideologiche con la vicepresidente Harris e con il governatore Walz. Non è una sorpresa. Ma l’alternativa a loro, semplicemente, è insostenibile. Sul piano interno, un altro quadriennio con la leadership caotica di Donald Trump, stavolta focalizzata sui pericolosi obiettivi del Project 2025, danneggerebbe i nostri cittadini e indebolirebbe le nostre sacre istituzioni. All’estero, invece, la democrazia sarebbe messa a repentaglio dal fatto che Trump e il suo seguace JD Vance si genufletterebbero a dittatori come Vladimir Putin, voltando le spalle ai nostri alleati.

Non possiamo permettere che questo accada.

Grazie a sondaggi e altri strumenti di rilevazione, sappiamo che furono i repubblicani moderati e i conservatori indipendenti dei cruciali Swing States a consegnare la presidenza a Joe Bidenn – onesti lavoratori americani del Wisconsin, del Michigan, dalla Pennsylvania, della Georgia, dell’Arizona e altri Stati che hanno messo il Paese davanti al loro partito.

Invitiamo con tutto il cuore questi amici, colleghi, vicini e familiari a prendere ancora una volta una posizione coraggiosa, a votare per i leader che si batteranno per il consenso, non per il caos; che lavoreranno per unire, non per dividere; che renderanno orgogliosi il nostro Paese e i nostri figli. Questi leader sono la vicepresidente Kamala Harris e il governatore Tim Walz.
